THE SHABBAT IS A SECRET ISLAND IN ETERNITY

Every commandment which the Holy One, blessed be He, gave unto Israel, He gave to them publicly, except the Shabbat which He bestowed upon them in secret, for G-d said in Exodus 31:17 ‘It is a sign between Me and the children, of Israel forever’. (Betzah 16a - R. Yohanan; R. Shimon bar Yohai)
The full text about this secret Covenant between G-d and Israel is found on Exodus 31: 13-17
'Speak also unto the children of Israel, saying: Verily you shall keep My Shabbats, because it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am Hashem, The LORD who sanctify you.
You shall keep the Shabbat therefore, for it is holy unto you; every one that profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whosoever does any work in it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
Six days shall work be done; but on the seventh day is a Shabbat of solemn rest, holy to the LORD; whosoever does any work in the Shabbat day, he shall surely be put to death.
Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Shabbat, to observe the Shabbat throughout their generations, for an eternal covenant.
It is a sign (secret) between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He ceased from work and rested.'
